Dawning

When green returned to the trees
We had a short-lived hope
That we were doing something right.

When we saw a few more birds in the sky
Their songs a bit richer with song
We sang along with our own praises.

When the water flowed
And we could see through it again
When it was water and not sludge, we smiled.

When we went one full year
Without the sky presenting fabulous
Cancerous colors, we relished the triumph.

But we were wrong, and too early to celebrate.
The earth was only being kind to us
The way a mother is before sharing hard news.

  1. What a beautiful piece, we truly need to take initiatives now or we will regret later.
